Our sounding meteorological balloons are specifically designed to carry larger payloads, such as radiosondes (usually 100 g to 1 kg), into high altitudes for critical upper air observations. Radiosondes equipped with advanced sensors for temperature, pressure and relative humidity along with GPS tracking, are carried by these balloons to high altitudes up to heights as high as 35 km at a rate of ascent sufficiently rapid to enable reasonable ventilation of the measuring elements. These sensors in the radiosonde communicate with ground receiving stations that constantly receive data streams with recorded information to provide real-time data essential for accurate weather predictions and climate research.

Key Features of Our Sounding Meteorological Balloons

Radiosonde Sensors: Each sounding balloon can carry a radiosonde, a device with sensors for measuring air temperature, pressure, humidity, and other atmospheric conditions. These sensors communicate directly with ground stations, delivering a continuous data stream for analysis by meteorologists.

GPS Tracking for Wind Analysis:
Alongside atmospheric readings, the radiosonde’s GPS transmitter tracks the horizontal movement of the balloon due to winds. This position data helps meteorologists analyse wind speed and direction, providing deeper insights into atmospheric behaviour.

Optional Payload Equipment: Our high-altitude sounding balloons can carry additional payloads such as:

  • Corner Reflector Radar Targets – for radar tracking.
  • Ozonesondes – for measuring ozone levels in the atmosphere.

Parachutes for Safe Descent:
For all types of payloads, we offer parachutes that can be attached to the balloons to ensure a controlled descent. For more information, check out our Meteorological Consumables page.

Available Balloon Sizes:

We offer a range of sounding meteorological balloon sizes to accommodate various payloads and burst altitudes, including:

  • CPR-200, CPR-300, CPR-350, CPR-500, CPR-600, CPR-750, CPR-800, CPR-850, CPR-875, CPR-1000, CPR-1200, CPR-1600, and CPR-2000.
